After more than a decade of conflict, Yemen continues to face one of the world’s largest and most severe humanitarian crises. More than 22 million people—nearly half of the country’s population—need humanitarian assistance and protection services.

Behind these figures are families who have lost their livelihoods, children facing hunger and malnutrition, and millions of displaced people searching for food, safe water and secure shelter.

Hunger and Malnutrition Threaten Children

Economic decline, rising living costs and weakened basic services have made access to daily food a severe struggle for millions of families. United Nations data indicates that 18.3 million people face acute food insecurity.

UNICEF estimates that around 2.2 million children are acutely malnourished, including approximately 516,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Around 80 per cent of Yemenis are also estimated to struggle with the cost of food, water, transport and essential health services.

Displacement and Weakened Services Deepen the Crisis

More than 5.2 million people are internally displaced. Families forced from their homes often arrive in new locations with very limited resources and face difficulty accessing safe drinking water, sufficient food, shelter supplies and healthcare.

The danger is compounded by two in every five health facilities being non-functional, while 10.95 million women and girls require urgent support. Humanitarian assistance is therefore more than a temporary contribution—it can protect families from the worst effects of hunger, disease and displacement.

Behind every number is a human story: a mother trying to feed her children, a child in need of care, and a family searching for clean water and a safer place to stay.
